Serial structure
LN - Product type (Cartridges are LN, Game boxes are TS, Instruction manuals are MA, leaflets are FA, Quick-Start guides are MK)
A/Z - Retail / Demo
CTR - 3DS' Codename Rumored to be Horizon
A/C/H - Unknown / (C found at the beginning of the last bit of the default Serial 'CTAP'.) / (H is used for built in applications like Mii Maker).
XX - Game's name (made from letters and digits)
E/P/J - English (US) / Pal (Europe/Australia) / Japanese (Japan)
Normally E/P/J represents region. In demos the serial code structure is LNZ-CTR-(A/C/H)(Game's name of #s and letters)(E/P/J)-REGION Where REGION is either EUR, USA, or JAP for Europe, United States, and Japan respectively. So demos have an extra identifier at the end of their serial structures.
Product Code
This is similar to the serial structure, but this is how the 3DS internally identifies 3DS Applications. And follows this structure:
CTR-[P/N]-[A/C/H/J][XX][E/P/J]
- CTR - 3DS' Codename Rumored to be Horizon
- P/N - P Generally used for games (note: for detail and dev games this is the same) / N Generally used for built in applications like Mii Maker
- A/C/H/J - Unknown / (C found at the beginning of the last bit of the default Product Code 'CTAP') / (H is used with for built in applications such as Mii Maker) / Unknown.
- XX - Game's name (made from letters and digits)
- E/P/J - English (US) / Pal (Europe/Australia) / Japanese (Japan)
So for example a Japanese copy of Ridge Racer 3D would have a Product Code of "CTR-P-ARRJ" and a Serial of "LNA-CTR-ARRJ"
The Product Code "CTR-P-CTAP" is the default Product Code for developers.
Non-game product codes
import.db and title.db mentions CTR-N-JESP and CTR-N-JEWP. These might refer to built-in applications rather than games.
